Two monuments to Holocaust victims unveiled in Svisloch District

GRODNO, 30 July (BelTA) – Two monuments to the Holocaust victims have been unveiled in Svisloch District, BelTA learned from the ideology, culture and youth department of the Svisloch District Executive Committee.

One of the monuments was erected in the Vishevnik Forest outside Svisloch where over 1,500 Jews were murdered during the Great Patriotic War.

“The memorial sign was installed with assistance of the Union of Belarusian Jewish Public Associations and Communities and with financial support of the Simon Mark Lazarus Foundation from the United Kingdom and the United States of America. Local authorities also took part in the project,” the Svisloch District Executive Committee informed. Attending the ceremony were Ambassador of Germany to Belarus Peter Dettmar, representatives of the Simon Mark Lazarus Foundation, local authorities, and the Union of Belarusian Jewish Public Associations and Communities.

The second monument to the Holocaust victims was installed in the settlement of Porozovo where over 350 Jews were shot during the war.
