Traces on Water wins eight awards at Belarus Film Awards

MINSK, 17 December (BelTA) – The feature film Traces on Water directed by Alexander Anisimov has won eight awards at the Belarus Film Awards competition, BelTA reported from the solemn award ceremony.

The movie about the fight of the Belarusian police against organized crime in the first post-war years had 13 nominations. It was named the best in the following categories: Best Director, Best Actor (Piotr Yurchenkov was awarded postmortem), Best Cinematographer (Dmitry Rud), Best Costume Design (Natalia Sardarova), Best Soundtracks (Viktor Kopytko), Best Film Editing (Olga Reshetnikova), Best Sound Editing (Vladimir Sukhodolov), Best Film Debut (Artem Kuren).

Alexander Anisimov said that he was happy to receive the award. “Our fellow moviemakers acclaimed this very complicated and hard work that we did within four months. It was very difficult, therefore, this award is particularly important for us,” the director said.

That was the debut edition of the Belarus Film Awards. A total of 167 applications were sent to the Culture Ministry in October-November. The jury consisted of 59 movie professionals and was led by Lyudmila Sayenkova-Melnitskaya, Head of the Literary and Art Criticism Department of the Journalism Faculty at Belarusian State University. The voting was done in two stages. The first stage was over on 30 November. During the first stage 112 applications were long-listed to proceed to the second stage that completed on 10 December.

The Belarus Film Awards offered nominations in 20 categories. The organizers were the Culture Ministry, the National Center for Contemporary Arts, the Minsk City Council, the National Film Studio Belarusfilm, the Belarusian Union of Moviemakers, and the Belarusian Guild of Movie Actors.
