MINSK, 14 August (BelTA) – The tenth Belarusian expedition will travel to Antarctica in late October, BelTA learned from head of the expedition Aleksei Gaidashov.

“This year we are going on an expedition earlier than usual – at the end of October. The Russian ship Akademik Fedorov will leave St. Petersburg on 26 October. We used to arrive there in late December. This time we are going to be there in the first half of the month. The season is going to be longer. We plan to work on the Gora Vechernyaya all the time, without traveling to other stations,” said Aleksei Gaidashov. Seven polar explorers will travel to Antarctica this time. The participants of the expedition will be selected in late August.

According to the head of the expedition, a meeting in September with the Russian side will complete all the agreements and work out necessary logistics schemes. There are plans to deliver Belarusian polar explorers and cargoes to Antarctica.

The construction of the Belarusian Antarctic station will be continued during the tenth expedition. The second module of the station will be expanded by a number of new sections. It is planned that the expedition will return to Belarus in late March.
