TEART festival in Minsk to feature theaters from five countries

MINSK, 5 August (BelTA) – The 9th international forum of theater art TEART, which will be held in Minsk from 20 September till 8 October under the motto “Concentrate”, has announced its program, BelTA learned from the organizers of the festival.

The biggest theater forum of Belarus traditionally consists of three parts: an international program, a showcase Belarus Open, and an educational program “School of TEART”. In 2019, the festival will bring together theaters from Belarus, Lithuania, Georgia, Germany, and France. Four plays will comprise the international program, and the Belarus Open showcase will include eleven plays. Tickets to the events of the festival are already available on the website of the festival and will soon go on sale at box offices and on the websites of ticket operators.

“TEART provides an opportunity to experience the highest presence of the theater in the life of the city and its residents. The festival is about bold directing decisions, provocative ideas, burning issues, vivid performances, and new emotions. Theater alchemy is concentrated in the hands of people able to create magic,” the organizers note.

The festival will open on 20 September with the performance “Concentrate. Opening”. The Belarus Open program will kick off on 21 September. Manager of the program and theater critic Lyudmila Gromyko has chosen eight of 32 best Belarusian plays of the recent years. “This festival is a cradle of a new Belarusian theater and this year we focus on such qualities as exclusivity of the director’s idea, talented performance, reflections on the world and the place of a man in it and most importantly - on Belarus,” she noted.

The Belarus Open program includes “Song of Songs” by the Visual and Performing Arts Center "Art Corporation”, “Hunting for Yourself” by the National Theater of Belarusian Drama, “THISISUS” from Ukrainian director Stas Zhirkov, “Candide, or the Optimism” by the Mogilev Regional Puppet Theater, and others.

The program will also present unique projects of the “Theater of Social Research”: the Social Theater Lab of ECLAB with “Close People?”, HUNCHtheatre with its “Left Dissidents”, and Kryly Khalopa Theater with “Brest Stories Guide”. These projects view the theater as a social statement and a mechanism of social change and will hit the stage on 21-22 September.

The international program will include “The Odyssey” by the Thalia Theater from Germany’s Hamburg on 28 September, “Pixel” by the CCN Creteil & Val-de-Marne and Cie Kafig from French Creteil on 1 October, and “Heroes’ Square” by the Lithuanian National Drama Theater on 5 October. The TEART festival will round off with the play “Stalingrad” by the Rezo Gabriadze Theater from Tbilisi, Georgia on 7-8 October.

The international forum of theater art TEART has been organized by the Visual and Performing Arts Center “Art Corporation”, Belgazprombank, and Gazprom Transgaz Belarus with the support of the Belarusian Culture Ministry and the Minsk City Hall.
