Summer school for Chinese students opens in Belarus’ Polessky State University

BREST, 1 August (BelTA) – Polessky State University of Belarus has opened a summer school for students of the People’s Republic of China, BelTA learned from dean of the university’s additional education department Olga Khmel.

A group of 18 students led by a teacher from Polessky State University’s partner university, Concord College of Fujian Normal University, will spend two week in Pinsk. “The summer school has been organized as part of the agreement on cooperation between our universities. This is the first serious step in the implementation of the agreement which was signed in 2018. The document envisages cooperation in education, scientific and cultural sectors, student and academic staff exchanges, participation in conferences, publication of joint materials,” Olga Khmel said.

The summer school will include various lectures, workshops, training sessions in social and economic development, history and culture of Belarus, the Russian language. The program will also include excursions and sport events. “The guests are impressed with the infrastructure. Yesterday, I read them a lecture on the system of Belarusian higher education. They had a lot of questions after the lecture and some of them said that they play to continue education as part of our post-graduate programs,” she said.

The new academic year in Polessky State University will offer Chinese language courses. Chinese will also be taught as the second foreign language in the major “Linguistic Support of Cross-Cultural Communications.”

The summer school in Polessky State University will stay open through 13 August. The closing ceremony of the summer school in Pinsk will be attended by the Concord College administrative director. The return visit of Belarusian students to study culture and language of the People’s Republic of China is scheduled for October 2018.
