STEAM festival in Gomel to draw young talents from Belarus, Russia

GOMEL, 26 June (BelTA) – The first STEAM festival will take place in Gomel on 26-28 June. The festival will bring together young hopefuls from Belarus and Russia who will showcase their skills and solutions in programming, robotics and scientific modeling, BelTA learned from the Gomel Oblast Palace for Children and Youth.

“The name of the festival stands for the disciplines that will be presented at the forum: science, technology, engineering, art and math,” the organizers said. The forum will take place at the Gomel Oblast Palace for Children and Youth and the Gomel State University. Taking part in it will be students of the 2nd-9th grades from Gomel Oblast, Minsk Oblast and Brest Oblast of Belarus and Bryansk Oblast of Russia.

The program of the festival provides for various tournaments and competitions. The first day of the event will include RoboFest-Gomel tournament and Scratch Programming Language and WebApp contests for the best solutions in the field of Internet applications and applications for mobile devices. The winners will be awarded with diplomas, prizes and souvenirs.

On the second day, the participants will try their hand at developing a 3D project using some basic 3D modeling programs. Apart from that, they will be invited to take part in a career guidance seminar, a lecture “On the Other Side of Numbers,” master classes and a roundtable session. They will be taken on excursions to the office of ЕРАМ Systems and the Gomel Palace and Park Ensemble.

The young hopefuls will develop a robotic objet d’art that will act as a kind of symbol for the festival.

The festival is organized by the Directorate General for Education of the Gomel Oblast Executive Committee, the Gomel Oblast Palace for Children and Youth, the Gomel State University with support of the Education for the Future Association, EPAM Systems, and the training center of the Hi-Tech Park.
