Some 400 military from 21 countries participate in army games in Brest District

MINSK, 15 August (BelTA) – A ceremony to award winners of various contests of the International Army Games 2019 took place in the exercise area Brestsky on 15 August, BelTA has learned.

Belarusian Defense Minister Andrei Ravkov, Serbian Defense Minister Aleksandar Vulin, Russian Deputy Defense Minister Yunus-Bek Yevkurov, Brest Mayor Aleksandr Rogachuk, ambassadors of Russia and China, heads of the delegations of the countries participating in the games, and military personnel took part in the ceremony.

The exercise area Brestsky hosted two contests – Sniper Frontier and Polar Star – of the International Army Games on 3-15 August. Belarusian snipers and scouts won both of them. On the whole, the contests gathered about 400 military personnel from 21 countries. About 100 medals and cups were awarded.

The Belarusian defense minister described the competitions as complicated yet captivating. He welcomed participants of the contests. “Your presence here indicates that you are the best representatives of your nations, the best specialists of your armies in these professions. I am convinced that all of you have been able to demonstrate excellent combat skills, outstanding training standards, and the ability to act well in complicated conditions despite the unusual climatic conditions and extremely tough competition,” Andrei Ravkov said.

Andrei Ravkov went on saying that the initiative to arrange military Olympics the Russian side suggested several years ago had been positively received in many countries. This year’s games are the fifth games on record. The Polar Star contest for special operations forces has debuted in Brest this year. Teams from Belarus and Russia competed in it. “No doubt the number of participants of this contest will grow larger next year. The Polar Star contest will become as popular as the Sniper Frontier contest,” Andrei Ravkov noted.

Russian Deputy Defense Minister Yunus-Bek Yevkurov said: “The army games go beyond competitions and sport. First of all, they represent an opportunity to learn the cutting-edge experience of the colleagues and study the best military practices.” He mentioned snipers and scouts as important components of any army and thanked the organizers for a job well done. The Russian deputy defense minister also wished every success to participants of the games in the future.

The winners received their well-deserved awards. The Song and Dance Company of the Baltic Fleet of Russia staged a performance for participants and guests of the closing ceremony.
