MOGILEV, 27 August (BelTA) – The international music festival Golden Shlyager will take place in Mogilev on 9-13 October. Taking part in the music forum will be popular artists and groups from 11 countries, including Belarus, Russia, Israel, Estonia, Cuba, Georgia, Germany, Latvia, Uzbekistan, Moldova and the United States, BelTA learnt from the Mogilev Oblast Philharmonic Hall.
All the concerts will be staged in the Ice Palace and the Community Center of Mogilev Oblast. The latter was renovated in the run-up to the festival.
The festival will be preceded by a retro concert Golden Rain of Music scheduled for 8 October. The concert will feature local artists, including Pavel Usovich, Yelena Materinko, Beatris group and Tet-A-Tet band.
The international music festival will start with a jazz concert starring famous Belarusian and foreign performers, including premiere vocal interpreter of Duke Ellington's music Cleve Douglas and American jazz/jazz fusion guitarist and pianist Stanley Jordan, as well as Jerusalem-based alto sax player Lenny Sendersky, Belarusian band Kamerata and Minsk-based group Apple Tea.
The solemn opening ceremony of the Golden Shlyager festival is scheduled for 10 October. Taking part in the opening concert will be Kristina Orbakaite, Yevgeny Shakhrai, Semyon Milstein, Rodion Gazmanov, Olga Zarubina, Viktor Saltykov, Ivanushki International, as well as Belarusian artists Igor Luchenok, Yadviga Poplavskaya and Alexander Tikhanovich, Valery Daineko, Iskui Abalyan, Vladislav Pligovka. The concert will also star People’s Artist of Moldova Konstantin Moskovich, Estonian pop singer, composer and actor Tonis Magi, popular Cuban artist Barbara, the legendary Boney M, as well as Georgian composer, poet and performer Teimuraz Bojgua.
The program of the festival envisages a variety of concerts. Popular drinking songs will be performed by Vladimir Devyatov, Natalia Bannova, Anatoly Yarmolenko and others. The youth audience will be able to dance to music hits of Natalia Gulkina, CarMan band, Yevgeni Osin, Di Bronx and Natalia, and Alexander Solodukha. Yuri Antonov will give a solo concert. Taking part in the closing concert will be Vladimir Devyatov, Laima Vaikule, Kai Metov, Sergei Dubrovin, Nikolai Trubach, and the Na-Na band.

The Golden Shlyager festival was established in 1995 with the support of Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko. The festival celebrates music and songs, and is distinguished by its poetic, lyrical and cordial nature. The initial idea of the festival was to bring together “forgotten” artists whose songs make up the golden collection of Soviet-time hits.
