Partisan Chronicles: Klichev Partisan Area, or Small Soviet Land
MINSK, 26 September (BelTA) – BelTA News Agency and the Belarusian State Museum of the Great Patriotic War History presents the next part of the joint project “Partisan Chronicles - Klichev Partisan Area”.
The Klichev Partisan Area (it was also called the Small Soviet Land) was among the biggest in Belarus. By the beginning of 1944, the area expanded to 3,000 km2 and had a population of over 70,000 civilians. The area was defended by more than 18,000 partisans. The partisans were based in Usakino forests. From the Usakino base they set out on their missions every day.
The Partisan Chronicles project
features a unique collection of handwritten partisan journals provided by the Belarusian State Museum of the Great Patriotic War History. The collection was assigned the status of historical and cultural value of international importance (Class 1).Every week BelTA brings these chronicles to light and posts their digital copies. Each of them sheds light on various aspects of partisans’ life, gives a glimpse into thoughts and feelings of people who risked their lives to fight a battle behind enemy lines.
Every week till 3 July 2019 BelTA will publish digests of these chronicles and upload their digital versions complementing the unique content with photos from its own archives.
