Over 200 Turkmen athletes to train in Belarus for Asian Indoor Games

MINSK, 11 May (BelTA) – Over 200 Turkmen athletes will train in Belarus ahead of the 5th Asian Indoor and Martial Arts Games that are due to take place in Ashgabat on 17-27 September 2017, BelTA learned from the press service of the Belarusian Sports and Tourism Ministry.

The agreement was reached at a meeting of Belarus’ Deputy Sports and Tourism Minister Mikhail Portnoi with Deputy Chairman of the State Committee for Sports of Turkmenistan Maksat Nasyrov and Deputy Chairman of the State Committee for Tourism of Turkmenistan Akyniyaz Agamuradov. The country’s biggest sports centers will be used to train athletes for the 2017 Asian Indoor Games.

“Belarus has a moderate summer, good training conditions, great sparring partners,” noted Maksat Nasyrov.

According to Mikhail Portnoi, Belarus is interested in establishing closer contacts with their Turkmen counterparts, including in the area of education and personnel training.

“About 100 people from Turkmenistan are currently students of the Belarusian State University of Physical Education. We are ready to accommodate more students, create good conditions for their professional training. We are also interested in sharing knowledge and the best practices in sports medicine, anti-doping programs, the organization of the educational and training process,” the deputy minister said.

Attending the talks on Belarus’ behalf were also Chairman of the Belarusian Wrestling Federation Alexander Dubkovsky, Deputy Director General of the National Olympic Center Staiki yevgeny Stankevich, three-time Olympic champion Alexander Medved, Secretary General of the Belarusian Public Association of Wrestling Vladimir Grishchenkov.

The Turkmen delegation told the Belarusian counterparts about the 5th Asian Indoor Games which are due to take place in the capital of Turkmenistan. The program of the forthcoming competitions will include 21 sports.
