Over 200 people participate in Kuropaty cleanup action in Minsk

MINSK, 25 March (BelTA) – Over 200 people took part in the public effort action to clean up the Kuropaty site in Minsk on 25 March, BelTA learned from Olga Zuyenok, Press Secretary of the Federation of Trade Unions of Belarus.

Representatives of various enterprises and companies, organizations, and public associations, including the Belarusian national youth union BRSM and Belaya Rus took part in the Kuropaty cleanup action. Eleven vehicles were used to remove non-merchantable timber from the site.

Director of the Borovlyany special forestry enterprise Alexander Mironovich told media that there are no plans to plant new trees at the site. “The trees here are planted thickly as it is. If we plant more of them, the new ones will be depressed by old ones,” he explained.

According to Alexander Mironovich, the Kuropaty grove is already mature. It is now necessary to take proper care of it and remove dead trees from time to time. “It is a natural process in a growing forest,” noted the specialist. He added that a special domestic waste removal team had been assigned to take care of the Kuropaty grove.
