Over 200 athletes to compete in European Spochan Championship in Minsk

MINSK, 3 May (BelTA) – More than 200 athletes will take part in the 2019 European Sports Chanbara Championship, which will take place in the national Olympic training center Staiki near Minsk on 4-5 May, BelTA has learned.

Representatives of 16 countries will compete for prizes in various age groups. Belarus will host the championship for the first time. Belarusian spochan athletes have proven their high level of training at various international competitions. At the 2017 European Championship, the Belarusian team ranked fifth in the continental rankings.

Taking part in the opening ceremony will be President of the International Sports Chanbara Association Tetsundo Tanabe. The competition will be judged by an independent referee board from Japan.

Chairman of the Belarusian Spochan Federation Andrei Kalistov noted that he expects great performance from Belarusian athletes. “It will be difficult to rank first in the team classification, but Belarusian athletes are quite experienced and will definitely win medals in various events of the championship,” Chairman of the federation Andrei Kalistov said.
