Opera singers from six countries to compete at Christmas Singing Competition

MINSK, 15 December (BelTA) – Opera singers from six countries will vie for the palm of victory at the Second Minsk International Christmas Singing Competition, BelTA learnt from the National Academic Bolshoi Opera and Ballet Theater of Belarus, the organizer of the competitions.

Ten participants from Belarus, Russia, Ukraine, Uzbekistan, Moldova and Mongolia will take to the stage during the third final round on 15 December. The singers will be assessed by an international jury comprising art directors and heads of international artistic agencies from 13 countries. Among them is Director of Opera Europa Nicholas Payne, General Manager of the German Opera on Rhein Christoph Meyer, and also Director of Rennes Opera House Alain Surrans. The chairman of the jury and the organizing committee of the competition is Director General of the Bolshoi Theater of Belarus Vladimir Gridyushko.

The winners of the Second Minsk International Christmas Singing Competition will be awarded prize money ($10,000 Grand Prix, $8,000 for the first place; $6,000 for the second and $4,000 for the third place), and also contracts and invitations to the leading opera theaters and companies.

The Minsk International Christmas Singing Competition was established in 2014 on the initiative of the National Academic Bolshoi Opera and Ballet Theater. The general partner is Belarusbank.
