New IAAF President intends to visit Belarus

MINSK, 4 September (BelTA) – New President of the International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) Sebastian Coe intends to visit Belarus. Sebastian Coe received the relevant invitation during his meeting with Belarusian Sport and Tourism Minister Alexander Shamko and Chairman of the Belarusian Athletics Federation Vadim Devyatovsky at the 2015 IAAF World Championships in Beijing, China, BelTA learnt from the Belarusian Athletics Federation.

Sebastian Coe also received a letter of greetings from Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko. The Belarusian head of state suggested developing cooperation and support in international athletics and expressed readiness to do everything possible for athletics development.

Sebastian Coe congratulated the Belarusian athletes on successful performance at the 2015 IAAF World Championships. He confirmed the intention to develop close relations with the Belarusian Athletics Federation and stated he would find time in his timetable to visit Belarus.

The meeting also focused on the issues related to the reconstruction of the Minsk Dinamo Stadium. Sebastian Coe expressed his vision regarding the reconstruction of this sport facility. The Belarusian side also suggested its infrastructure for hosting seminars, conferences, and trainings to promote athletics as a country ready to take part in tenders and host various competitions.
