Museum attendance in Belarus goes up

MINSK, 30 March (BelTA) – The number of visitors to Belarusian museums has increased in recent years, Deputy Head of the Culture and Art Institutions Department at the Belarusian Culture Ministry Valentina Makarova said during the session of the permanent commission for education, culture and science of the House of Representatives hosted by the National Art Museum of Belarus on 30 March, BelTA has learned.

The Belarusian State Museum of the History of the Great Patriotic War draws from 30,000 to 60,000 people per month and is one of the most visited Belarusian museums.

Tourists show special interest in the museums that use modern technologies and establish an interactive dialogue with their visitors. Many museums hold projects and organize exhibitions to attract sponsors. The exhibition at Brest Fortress sets a good example in this respect.

Valentina Makarova added that Belarusian museums are undergoing reorganization, which mainly means that a number of museums merge into one. Today the main problem they are facing is the lack of facilities for storing their holdings. A new storage facility is badly needed. This construction project is likely to be financed under the state investment program.

All in all, Belarus’ museum holdings comprise over 5 million items.
