Minsk welcomes more tourists in 2014

MINSK, 4 March (BelTA) – In 2014 Minsk welcomed 9% more tourists than in 2013, BelTA learnt from the Minsk main statistics department.

In 2014 Minsk received a total of 76,200 tourists, an 8.9 percent increase on 2013. An estimated 60,100 of them came from the CIS countries (up 8.5% up). Russians made the majority of visitors to the city at 58,900 (up 8.6%). Tourists also came from Germany, Latvia, Lithuania, and Turkey. These countries accounted for 32.9% of the total visits from non-CIS countries (30.5% in 2013).

Last year accommodation services in Minsk were provided by 39 hotels, six hotel complexes, and four hostels.

In 2014 a total of 504,900 people used hotel services, up 13.3% from 2013. A total of 162,100 were Belarusians (up 5.4% from 2013), 342,800 people from other countries (up 17.5%), including 232,900 people from the CIS (up 16.7%).

Those using hotel services in Minsk in 2014 were Russians (83.2% of the total), Germans, Italians, Chinese, Latvians, Lithuanians, Poles and Turks.

The most popular travel destinations for Belarusians last year included Russia, Bulgaria, Greece, Egypt, Spain, Italy, Lithuania, Poland, Turkey, Montenegro and the Czech Republic.
