MINSK, 7 July (BelTA) – The final stage of the Peace Run relay will take place in Minsk on 8 July, BelTA learned from the press service of Minsk City Hall.

Around 500 Peace Runners from all over the world will start the torch run at the Vostok subway station opposite to Belarus’ National Library at 10 a.m. to finish it at Victory Square. The following ceremony marking the relay’s 30^th anniversary will feature Belarusian and foreign Olympic medalists and foreign ambassadors.

The 2017 Peace Run kicked off in Russia in May. It brings together runners from Austria, Hungary, the UK, Germany, Georgia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Latvia, Lithuania, Macedonia, Moldova, the Netherlands, Poland, Russia, Romania, Serbia, Slovakia, the U.S., France, Ukraine, Croatia, Czechia, Switzerland, Estonia, and Belarus. The Peace Runners pass the torch and arrange meetings and events dedicated to friendship, peace, and different world cultures. The Belarusian relay is 1,900-kilometer long. The event will involve some 10,000 people in Belarus and over one million worldwide.

Along the route people in thousands of communities — from children to senior citizens, from regular folks to world leaders — join the Peace Runners by carrying the torch for a few steps or a few miles, each person adding their hopes and dreams to the global wave of friendship and goodwill. The Peace Run makes a big step for peace, touching the hearts of millions of people. Taking part in the relay are volunteer runners, professional sportsmen and amateurs.

The Peace Run in Belarus is held under the auspices of Belarus’ Sports and Tourism Ministry, the Athletics Federation, and Minsk City Hall.
