Minsk to host conference on Belarus-UN technical cooperation

MINSK, 28 January (BelTA) – The international conference on strengthening technical cooperation in development between Belarus and the UN will be held in Minsk on 29 January, BelTA learnt from head of the UN Department of Public Information in Belarus Viktor Radivinovsky.

The event is organized by the Foreign Ministry and the UN Office in Belarus. Attending the conference will be representatives of the government and state-run establishments, NGOs, private sector, academic community and religious organizations as well as 24 UN organizations, 16 foreign partners, including traditional and new donors engaged in the implementation of international assistance in the country.

The conference will analyze the results of the joint work of the UN and the government within the UN Development Assistance Framework in Belarus for 2011-2015. It is expected that the draft national strategy for sustainable social and economic development through 2030 as well as the new draft UN Development Assistance Framework in Belarus for 2016-2020 will be presented at the forum. The conference will also be used to discuss the issues related to providing international assistance and new opportunities for partnership.

The conference will create a solid platform for a continuous constructive dialogue with the participation of a big number of partners and give impetus to further development of the national legislation in part of the mobilization and implementation of the international assistance.

The implementation of the first UN Development Assistance Framework for 2011-2015 made a considerable contribution in the coordination, optimization and harmonization of donor resources for the implementation of UN projects in the country. The total amount of resources raised as grants to support the implementation of the first UNDAF made up $490 million. The second UNDAF will continue to support Belarus’ efforts in achieving the goals on the UN Post-2015 development agenda which focuses on the most important areas such as sustainable economic development; inclusive and responsible management; environmental protection; sustainable development of the human capital with the emphasis on health, education, social involvement and social protection.
