Minsk shows interest in hosting 2021 UEFA Super Cup

MINSK, 24 October (BelTA) – The Belarusian Football Federation is showing interest in hosting the 2021 UEFA Super Cup at Dinamo Stadium in Minsk, BelTA learned from the press service of the federation.

The bidding procedure for the selection of the venue to host the UEFA Super Cup in 2021 was launched on 28 September 2018, with 15 February 2019 to be the deadline set for associations to express their interest. The UEFA Executive Committee will name the 2021 UEFA Super Cup host in May-June 2019.

Dinamo Stadium in Minsk was assigned UEFA Category 4 in October 2018. This will enable the stadium to host matches of the highest level.

The UEFA Super Cup will be hosted by Istanbul, Turkey in 2019 and by Porto, Portugal in 2020.

The Belarusian Football Federation took part in the bidding procedure to host the 2020 UEFA European Football Championship final tournament and the 2020 UEFA Super Cup.

The UEFA Super Cup is an annual football match organized by UEFA and contested by the reigning champions of the two main European club competitions, the UEFA Champions League and the UEFA Europa League. It takes place at the start of the domestic season, in mid-August.

24 teams have won the UEFA Super Cup so far. The most successful teams in the competition are Barcelona and Italian side Milan, who have won the trophy five times each. The current holders are Spanish club Atletico Madrid.
