Minsk film festival Listapad unveils its full lineup for 2019
MINSK, 10 October (BelTA) - The Minsk International Film Festival Listapad presented the programs of the main feature and documentary film competitions, the feature films competition "Youth on the March", the main national film schools competition and the children and youth film competition Listapadzik in a press conference in Minsk on 10 October, BelTA has learned.
The feature film competition will feature 12 films, documentary film competition - 13, and Youth on the March - 12. Listapadzik will present 8 movies. The main national film schools competition will be held on 2-4 November and include 22 films.
Listapad's program director Igor Sukmanov spoke about the feature film competition. According to him, these 12 movies raise pressing issues and offer touching cinematic language.
So Long, My Son by Wang Xiaoshuai tells the story of one family, from the 1970s to our time. This is the work about patience, about people who deal with challenges that try to break them but who do not cave and continue to live.
Kristina Grozeva and Petar Valchanov’s Father is of particular interest. Each of their works, starting with the debut film, has been honored at the Minsk film festival.
One of the most radical authors of modern Russian cinema - Valeria Gai Germanika dreams of coming to Minsk and personally presenting her movie to the audience. As Valeria is expecting a child it is not yet clear whether she will make it to Minsk. Her film, The Imagined Wolf, will also be featured in the competition program.
One of the most controversial films is The Criminal Man directed by Dmitry Mamuliya, an important figure in the modern cinema. His movie has references to the works of Fyodor Dostoyevsky. The director will visit Minsk to present the film.
The competition will feature Valentin Vasyanovych’s film Atlantis from Ukraine that was one of the main sensations of the last Venice Film Festival. Running to the Sky (Mirlan Abdykalykov), Kerosene (Yusup Razykov), and Then We Danced (Levan Akin, Georgia, Sweden),The Painted Bird (Vaclav Marhoul) and The Secret of a Leader (Farkhat Sharipov, Kazakhstan) will also leave an unforgettable impression. Another masterpiece is a Georgian-Russian film Inhale-Exhale (Dito Tsintsadze) which was premiered at the Shanghai International Festival.
Corpus Christi (Poland) was the last film to join the competition. “We are very proud and happy to have this opportunity to present the work of a young Polish director Jan Komasa. This film is one of the most significant in the modern cinema of Poland,” Igor Sukmanov said. This is a vivid example of a young talent demonstrating high level of spiritual comprehension of life.
A total of 154 films from 50 countries will participate in the festival. Works from Sudan and Senegal will make their maiden appearance at the festival for the first time.
The 26th Minsk International Film Festival Listapad will be held on 1-8 November 2019 under the slogan “To Joy”.
