Minsk bookshop launches China Shelf project

MINSK, 11 September (BelTA) – Minsk bookshop Knigy&Knizhechki has launched the China Shelf project, BelTA has learned..

Initiated by China, China Book International Program is running in more than ten countries. Belarus joined the program on 11 September. Interest in Chinese literature is growing in Belarus, Belarus’ Information Minister Alexander Karlyukevich noted at the opening ceremony. Belarusian publishing houses are putting out more books about China which shows that the development of Sinology has been advancing in Belarus. The Bright Signs: Poets of China has become one of the most notable projects lately. The international editorial board was set up to implement it. The most recent project is the book “Chinese poetry of the 21st century”.

Chinese Ambassador to Belarus Cui Qiming said that about 100 books available to Belarusian readers are classic literature, literary works about the culture of Tianxia and about modern China. He strongly recommended paying attention to Xi Jinping’s book series The Governance of China.

According to Director General of Belkniga bookselling network Alexander Vashkevich, the project will be open in the format of an exhibition for a week and then buyers will be able to purchase the books. The books available in the Belarusian bookshop have been selected by the Chinese party.
