Michel Kikoine’ Still Life to return to Belarus

Michel Kikoine’ Still Life to return to Belarus

MINSK, 23 October (BelTA) – Belarus will get back the Still Life painting by Michel Kikoine, a native of Rechitsa and a representative of the Ecole Nationale Superieure des Beaux-Arts in Paris, BelTA learned from the Belarusian Embassy in Switzerland.

The Still Life painting (oil on canvas, 44х55) was discovered by the embassy at an art gallery in Fort Lauderdale in the United States. The painting was bought back with financial support of Belarus’ Honorary Consul in Lausanne Andrei Nazheskin.

“The painting has arrived in Bern from where it will travel to Minsk to be donated to the National Art Museum. It will be the first work of this famous artist in the museum holdings,” the diplomatic mission informed.

The return of Michel Kikoine’ Still Life to Belarus is a result of joint artwork recovery efforts of the Belarusian Embassy in Switzerland and Belarus’ Honorary Consul in Lausanne Andrei Nazheskin. Earlier, he helped return three works by Belarusian-French painter Nadia Khodasevich Leger.
