Iryna Prasiantsova wins European Modern Pentathlon Championships bronze to book 2020 Olympics berth

MINSK, 12 August (BelTA) - Iryna Prasiantsova of belarus clinched the bronze of the 2019 European Modern Pentathlon Championships in Bath to secure the 2020 Tokyo Olympics berth, BelTA has learned.

The Belarusian scored a total of 1364 points to finish third.

Lithuania's Laura Asadauskaite scored 1390 points to win the event. Silver went to Kate French of the UK (1381 points).

Belarus’ Volha Silkina finished 6th with 1346 points. Anastasiya Prokopenko, who won the European Modern Pentathlon Championships in Minsk in 2017 and in Bulgaria's Sofia in 2012, placed 15th with 1319 points.

Belarus finished second with the total of 4029 points at the overall team standings. Gold went to the UK (4074 points).

According to the Belarusian Modern Pentathlon Federation, the Belarusian team have booked two 2020 Olympic berths so far. Anastasiya Prokopenko qualified for the Olympics in Tokyo after winning the 2018 World Modern Pentathlon Championships in Mexico. In September 2018, Anastasiya Prokopenko and Iryna Prasiantsova were first in the relay at the world competitions.  

The 2020 Olympics qualification will continue at the World Modern Pentathlon Championships in Budapest on 1-8 September 2019.
