International Short Film Festival Kinosmena 2018 gets underway in Minsk

MINSK, 19 September (BelTA) – The International Short Film Festival Kinosmena kicked off in Minsk on 19 September and will be running till 23 September, BelTA learned from the festival organizers.

The competition program includes 24 short films from different countries. This year the festival received about 4,500 works from 125 countries. The “finalists” will be shown in the Belarus cinema house and velcom cinema by Silver Screen cinemas. Minsk expects to welcome filmmakers from Russia, Ukraine, Sweden, Egypt and the Republic of Korea.

The festival includes the following programs: Belarusian Films, Foreign Feature Films, Horror Films, Animation, and A Special Look.

Sewoong Bae from South Korea will come to Minsk to present his movie “The Other Side of the Dooman River” to the audience. The Belarusian capital will also host Swedish directors, winners of the European prominent film festivals.

On 19 September the festival will show Belarusian short films. The winner will be voted by the audience. The best short films of 2017 (Kinosmena Best 2017) will be screened on 20 September. The festival will officially open on 21 September. The audience will meet the directors, members of the jury and watch the first movie from the competition program. The animation, horror and A Special Look programs will be running on 22-23 September. The winners will be announced on 23 September. The Grand Prix goes to the film voted best by the jury and audience.

The festival films will also be shown in Vitebsk, Mogilev, Gomel, Mozyr and Molodechno.

The International Short Film Festival Kinosmena is an annual event in the cultural life of the Republic of Belarus. Approved by the Culture Ministry, the festival is held under the patronage of the Belarusian Union of Cinematographers.
