Grodno Oblast attracts Israeli tourists with health and nostalgic tourism

MINSK, 13 February (BelTA) – Grodno Oblast will focus on health and nostalgic tourism to attract Israeli tourists, Tatiana Lidyaeva, deputy head of the sport and tourism department of the Grodno Oblast Executive Committee, told BelTA.

The delegation of Grodno Oblast presented a website (grodnovisafree.by), which gives information on all tourist sites, accommodations, popular routes, events of interest, and overall tourist potential of Grodno Oblast, at the 23rd International Mediterranean Tourism Market (IMTM 2017), the major tourism exhibition held in Israel.

“The expo proved the growing interest of the Israeli to Belarus. Last year saw a double-fold increase in the number of Israeli guests in the health centers of Grodno Oblast. The visitors of the exhibition also showed interest in the information on health tourism,” Tatiana Lidyaeva noted. She stressed that nostalgic tourism is also very popular among the Israeli tourists.

“The town of Radun in Voronovo District can also be of interest to Israeli tourists, as Israel Meir Kagan, the founder of the Jewish teaching Chofetz Chaim, lived and was buried there,” Tatiana Lidyaeva noted. She says the Israeli side is ready to invest in Belarusian efforts. In particular, the project to open a kosher restaurant in Radun is now in the works. This will let to include the town on the itinerary of Israeli travellers visiting Grodno, Novogrudok, and Vilnius. An Israeli investor plans to participate in the project. The Mediterranean visitors of the expo were also interested in ecological and agritourism in Belarus.
