Grodno Governor's Cup to draw children’s ice hockey teams from Belarus, Russia

GRODNO, 5 January (BelTA) – The Governor's Cup in Grodno will draw children’s ice hockey teams from Belarus and Russia, BelTA learned from the Grodno ice hockey training center of Olympic reserve.

The international tournament for the prizes of the Grodno Oblast governor will kick off on 5 January. Six U11 teams from Belarus and Russia will take part in the tournament. Being the host, Grodno will have the right to field two teams. The tournament will also feature the teams from Minsk, Molodechno, Zhlobin and the Olympus team from Vologda of Russia.

“The Governor’s Cup is turning into a traditional tournament. This year it is held for the second time. We see the interest in it on the part of visiting teams. It is important for our players to test their strength too. The U11 is one of the strongest teams in the school, a leader in the national championship,” the Grodno ice hockey training center of Olympic reserve said and noted that Christmas gifts have been prepared for all young participants of the tournament. The MVPs from each team will be awarded valuable prizes.

The Superskills program will add entertainment to the tournament. The program will feature the nominations “Best Shootout Scorer”, “Best Goalkeeper”, “The Fastest Skater”, and others. They will be conducted on a robin-round basis. The winners will be announced on 7 January.

The organizers of the tournament include the Grodno Oblast Executive Committee, Grodno City Hall, the Sport and Tourism Department of the Grodno Oblast Executive Committee, the Grodno oblast committee of the BRSM Youth Union, the Ice Hockey Federation of Grodno Oblast, the representative office of the National Olympic Committee in Grodno Oblast, the Grodno ice hockey training center of Olympic reserve and the HC Neman.
