Glubokoye to celebrate Belarus’ folk music at international pipe fest

VITEBSK, 12 April (BelTA) – The international festival Dudarsky Rei (Pipe Domination) will take place in Glubokoye, Vitebsk Oblast, on 3-5 May, BelTA learned from the Glubokoye District Executive Committee.

The festival will bring together musicians from Poland, Macedonia, Belarus, Croatia and Russia. The three-day program will feature parties, master classes and a solemn service in a Catholic church.

The opening ceremony will take place on the Alley of Famous Natives, at the monument to Ignat Buinitsky, the founder of the first professional national theater of Belarus. Ignat Buinitsky invited a pipe musician to his theater company. Musicians will give an improvised performance there. After that the festival will move to the settlement of Podsvilie where the musicians will march in a procession. In the evening the representatives of the participating states will present music traditions of their regions on the bank of Plissa Lake.

The festival is organized by the Glubokoye District Executive Committee and Vitaly Voronov, Belarusian translator, literary man, publisher, and opinion journalist, native of Glubokoye District.
