Folk roots festival in Chausy District on 15 August

MOGILEV, 7 August (BelTA) – The ethnographic festival “Visiting the Radimichi Tribe” based on the events of the 10-12th centuries will be held in Chausy District on 15 August. The second edition of the festival will bring together the lovers of the Belarusian history in the agro-town of Radomlya, said Alesya Daletskaya, a specialist with the Chausy district cultural and leisure center.

The festival will be held near the ancient settlement of the Radimichi tribe and will start with a theatrical performance featuring an ancient ritual fire rite. The 10-12th centuries costumes for the actors were reconstructed based on the special sketches. "The event will show the unique rite called Turitsa: seven girls, shrieking and screaming, run away from a guy dressed as a bull. After killing the beast the men of the Radimichi tribe chose wives,” Alesya Daletskaya said.

In addition, there will be rides and attractions which correspond to the spirit of old times. The festival will feature ethno-bands from Khotimsk and Krasnopoye, Mogilev and Minsk. Guests will enjoy the sounds of harps, cymbals and whistle flutes.

Arts and crafts by local artisans, various souvenirs and master classes will be on offer at a fair. The local cuisine traditions will be presented at a culinary fest.
