MINSK, 5 November (BelTA) – The exhibition “Belarus in the Great War 1914-1918” will open in the Museum of Book at the National Library of Belarus on 8 November, BelTA learned from the institution.

The exhibition dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the end of the First World War will feature unique exhibits: rare books, newspapers, magazines, postcards, correspondence of soldiers, and the original stationery, printing equipment, personal belongings and religious objects of the war time. Thematic sections of the exhibition dedicated to combat operations, life at the front, life in evacuation and under occupation, revolutionary events, signing of the Treaty of Brest-Litovsk reflect the tragic and heroic pages of the great war on the territory of Belarus, the organizers said.

The updated virtual project “First World War” of the National Library of Belarus will be presented during the exhibition.

This year most European countries will mark the 100th anniversary of the end of the First World War on 11 November. It involved around 40 states with a total population of more than 1.5 billion people. About 10 million died and more than 20 million returned from the war wounded and crippled. Contemporaries called it “the Great War”.

The exhibition will run till 8 December. The project has been organized by the National Library of Belarus together with the famous researcher and collector Vladimir Likhodedov. The exposition takes a fresh look at the events of the First World War through the prism of written sources and printed materials of that time.
