GRODNO, 9 August (BelTA) – Delicious food, interesting architecture and friendly people can become international draws of Belarus, food critic and television celebrity from the UAE Gaurav Tandon told BelTA. On his television show Gaurav Tandon has reviewed more than 1,000 restaurants.

A team of KKompany Media Solutions from the United Arab Emirates has been working in Grodno Oblast several days already. The company is one of the largest integrated content producers in the Middle East. The team has already visited Mir Castle and other tourist attractions of the region, checked out local health resorts, took part in master classes of Belarusian artisans and tried national cuisine.

“Food was in focus of my attention. I can forget people, but I will never forget food. The things that I tried were really amazing: draniki, machanka, sausages. Before the trip I learned that potatoes are a staple food in Belarus, therefore everywhere I went I tried potato dishes. National cuisine can become one of the biggest tourist draws of your country,” he said.

Gaurav Tandon was equally amazed by friendly people and stunning nature, as well as ancient castles steeped in history. “I am sure your country has a lot of things on offer to tourists,” he added.

“Our show can be watched all over the world, though our target audience is located in the UAE and other countries of the Middle East. This program has been running for over a decade already. We have visited many European countries, from Portugal to Finland, and from Austria to Georgia, therefore we have seen a lot to compare. Impressions of Belarus? Excellent roads, great food, awesome people and comfortable weather, which is also important, after all, it is very hot in our part of the world now,” producer of the show Kritika Rawat said. In her view, Belarus has all chances to become a popular European destination among travelers from the Middle East.

“We chose your country for a reason. Belarus is increasing presence in the market of the Middle East, however it is not yet very visible there. Our people need more information about the country and its tourist offerings,” Kritika Rawat said. After Grodno the production team will travel to Brest Oblast.

“Such media tours are highly instrumental in bringing in more tourists, this is a time-tested practice. We have welcomed many journalists from Poland, Lithuania and Russia, these countries account for the bulk of tourists coming to our region. However, at present we see a surge in visitors from faraway countries, including the Middle East region,” deputy head of the Sport and Tourism Department of the Grodno Oblast Executive Committee Tatyana Lidyayeva said. The region has embarked on a marketing push to increase awareness of its tourist offerings by taking part in various exhibitions and thematic events abroad.
