Exhibition of graphic works by Dagestani artist Marat Gadzhiyev kicks off in Minsk

MINSK, 5 February (BelTA) – Dawn, an exhibition of graphic works by Dagestani artist Marat Gadzhiyev, got underway at the art gallery University of Culture in Minsk on 8 February, BelTA has learned.

The exhibition features a series of graphical works on paper.

According to Marat Gadzhiyev, each of the works contains symbols referring to a certain life period and represents his understanding of development paths.

The project has already gone on display in Moscow and is now available to Belarusian art connoisseurs. The name of the exhibition, Dawn, has a symbolic meaning. Marat Gadhiyev, in his own words, used to watch the sunrise in the mountains when he was a child. These motifs still impress the artist.

Journalists Said Ninanalov, Zhemilat Ibragimova, and Marat Gazhiyev also presented the books which came out in Makhachkala in the recent years. The books were donated to the National Library of Belarus, the Presidential Library of Belarus, the Yakub Kolas Central Scientific Library of Belarus’ National Academy of Sciences, and the library of Belarusian State University of Culture and Arts.

Marat Gadzhiyev has held personal exhibitions in Makhachkala, Krasnodar, Moscow, and Kaspiysk. His works are kept at the Dagestan Museum of Fine Arts and make part of private collections across the globe.

Born in Grozny in 1968, Marat Gadzhiyev is a famous Dagestani painter and author. He graduated from Dagestan Polytechnic Institute in 1995. Today he is the co-founder and editor-in-chief of the Caucasian art newspaper Gortsy, director of the non-governmental organization Caucasian House of Translations, and chief librarian of the Rasul Gazmatov National Library of Dagestan. Marat Gadzhiyev is a member of the Russian Union of Journalists and recipient of Golden Eagle, Dagestan’s national award. He has also written a book about adventures in the Caucausus named Sol (Salt).

The event is organized in the run-up to the 25th Minsk International Book Fair in cooperation with the Zvyazda publishing house.
