MINSK, 6 October (BelTA) – The jury of the program for feature film debut directors at the Listapad Film Festival 2016 will be headed by Canadian director Denis Cote, BelTA learned from the organizers of the festival.

In Minsk Denis Cote, a participant and prizewinner of many international film festivals, will present his movies: Vic + Flo Saw A Bear, and Boris Without Beatrice.

Denis Cote began his cinematographic career as a critic. He made his first feature film Drifting States in 2005. The movie won the Golden Leopard-Video at the Locarno International Film Festival. The 2008 film All That She Wants, his third feature film, won the silver Leopard for best directing at the Locarno International Film Festival. The 2009 documentary Carcasses was presented at the Cannes Film Festival at the Directors' Fortnight in May 2009. It was part of the Canada Top Ten at the Toronto International Film Festival. Vic + Flo Saw a Bear premiered in competition at the 63rd Berlin International Film Festival where it won the Alfred Bauer Prize. Boris Without Beatrice premiered at the 66th Berlin International Film Festival in 2016.

Denis Conte explores the people who do not fit in the traditional society: former prisoners, immigrants, bandits and hermits. Many of the projects involve non-professional actors.

The 23rd edition of the Minsk International Film Festival Listapad will be held under the motto “Towards Inspiration” on 4-11 November. The organizer is the center of visual and performing arts ART Corporation.

The festival has been organized by the Culture Ministry and Minsk City Hall with the participation of the Belarusian TV and Radio Company, National Film Studio Belarusfilm, and the Belarusian Union of Cinematographers.
