Days of Chinese Culture solemnly open at Bolshoi Theater of Belarus

MINSK, 2 September (BelTA) – The Days of Chinese Culture opened in a solemn ceremony at the National Academic Bolshoi Opera and Ballet Theater of the Republic of Belarus on 2 September, BelTA reports.

Culture Minister Yuri Bondar pointed out in his welcome address that humanitarian relations between Belarus and China are developing dynamically due to shared principles of domestic and foreign policy and the absence of fundamental disagreements. The minister noted: "Personal contacts and relations of trust between the heads of state contribute to the effective development of bilateral relations".

China and Belarus have age-old historic and cultural traditions. “Inter-state relations are based on friendship between the nations, while spiritual affinity is the very foundation of this friendship. I am certain that the Days of Chinese Culture will strengthen mutual understanding, long-standing friendship and solidarity between our states,” the minister said.

The Days of Chinese Culture will run in Belarus through September 4. The China National Peking Opera Company will give two performances of the famous classical Chinese opera Women Generals of the Yang Family at the Opera and Ballet Theater.

Belarus and China signed the agreement on cultural cooperation in November 1992, the agreement to set up the Belarus-China intergovernmental cooperation committee in September 2014, and the agreement to open cultural centers on a mutual basis in May 2015. In May 2017, the Belarusian Culture Ministry signed an agreement with China's State Administration of Press, Publication, Radio, Film and Television. One of the key areas of Belarus-China cooperation is arranging Belarusian and Chinese culture days. The countries hosted such events in 2011, 2012, 2015, and 2017.
