Chinese students returning to Belarus to undergo recuperation

MINSK, 14 February (BelTA) – Students returning from China to Belarus will undertake mandatory recuperation and acclimatization programs, BelTA learned from the press service of the Healthcare Ministry.
“In order to ensure continued medical observation of students from the People’s Republic of China who come back to resume their studies at Belarusian universities, we will send them for recuperation to the Brigantina sports and recreation center of Belarusian State University and the Zagorie rehabilitation center,” the press service informed.
These are the students who were not exposed to coronavirus, who came from unaffected regions, and who were under quarantine in China. As of today, 174 students have returned to Belarus from China. They are under observation now.
The Zagorie rehabilitation center is wrapping up preparations to house Chinese students. All the healthcare workers to be deployed there have undergone additional training. Chinese students will be offered individual curricula. The same measures will be in place in all the regions where students from China study. Belarusian nationals will be sent to two other rehabilitation centers near Minsk – the ones in Aksakovshchina and Atolino.
Due to collaboration with the border and customs services and the Transport and Communications Ministry, specialists of the Healthcare Ministry receive real-time updates about people arriving from China. These people are tested for the virus and delivered to recuperation centers.
According to the press service, the majority of Chinese students did not leave Belarus for China or any other states during winter holidays in view of the coronavirus outbreak.
All in all, more than 300,000 people arriving in Belarus have undergone medical screenings.
No confirmed cases of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) have been reported in Belarus. Nevertheless, on 30 January Belarus issued a health alert as a precaution. A series of measures have been taken to strengthen the national capacity to detect and tackle the virus. The country’s healthcare organizations are ready to receive people suspected of contracting the virus.
The diagnostic laboratory of the National Research Center for Epidemiology and Microbiology works round the clock. It has already examined clinical specimens of nearly 1,000 people. All the tests have come back negative.
