Chinese language and culture center opens at Vitebsk State University

VITEBSK, 30 August (BelTA) - A Chinese Language and Culture Center opened at Masherov Vitebsk State University on 30 August, BelTA has learned.

Taking part in the opening ceremony were Chinese Ambassador to Belarus Cui Qiming, members of the Chinese embassy delegation, representatives of the city administration, staff and students of the university. “The opening of the center was timed to the Year of Belarus' Education in China. Cooperation in education between the two countries develops steadily. Every year Belarus welcomes more and more Chinese students. For example, around 150 Chinese students are currently studying at Vitebsk State University, soon the number will increase to 200 students,” Cui Qiming said. He expressed confidence that work of the center will be successful and fruitful and the center will promote the Chinese language and culture in Belarus.

The Chinese ambassador reminded that last year Belarus and China celebrated the 25th anniversary of diplomatic relations. “All this time the Belarus-China relations have been developing dynamically and effectively. They have already turned into a trust-based strategic partnership and unlocked enormous potential for further development of mutually beneficial bilateral cooperation,” he noted.

Representatives of the university said that the center is fitted with everything necessary to provide quality education. The center employs two native speakers who volunteered to come to Vitebsk. The center offers classes and organizes social and cultural events for Vitebsk citizens and the university staff and students.

All in all, about 1,000 foreign students from 23 countries are currently studying at Masherov Vitebsk State University.
