MINSK, 14 July (BelTA) - The People's Republic of China plans to provide technical and economic assistance for Belarus with two projects in Minsk: the construction of a national football stadium and a world-class swimming pool, Belarusian Economy Minister Vladimir Zinovsky told the media following the meeting with the delegation of China’s Commerce Ministry headed by Chairman of the Office of the Department of Foreign Assistance Wang Ligui on 14 July, BelTA has learned.

“We have agreed with our Chinese partners that they will soon provide technical and economic assistance for the projects to build a large national football stadium and a world-class swimming pool. Today by means of letter exchange we signed an agreement on starting the feasibility study of these projects. We estimate that some 1.4 billion yuan (nearly $180 million at the current exchange rate - BelTA's note) will be allocated for this purpose. We are grateful to the Chinese side,” Vladimir Zinovsky noted.

According to the minister, today China’s technical and economic assistance for Belarus exceeds two billion yuan. He pointed to the successful implementation of the first infrastructure project to develop the Belarus-China industrial park Great Stone, namely the electrification of the park. “We are building a hospital in Borovlyany and a student residence hall in Minsk using China’s technical and economic assistance,” Vladimir Zinovsky remarked. Furthermore, over 10 social houses have been put into service in close cooperation with the Chinese side. “We have reached mutual understanding regarding the second and the third stage of this project. We are interacting at all levels, from district executive bodies to the government. A total of 50 high-rise buildings will be constructed,” Vladimir Zinovsky added.
