Chagall readings in Vitebsk to gather researchers from Belarus, Russia, U.S.

VITEBSK, 7 June (BelTA) – The 26th Chagall readings, which are due to take place in Vitebsk on 10-11 June, will mark the 130th birthday of the artist, BelTA learned from the Marc Chagall Museum.

Attending this year’s scientific conference will be 12 researchers from Belarus, Russia, and the United States. Their reports will focus on the biography and creative heritage of Marc Chagall, the life and creative activities of well-known contemporary artists. For instance, participants will touch upon the revolution theme, children’s books with Chagall’s drawings, the outstanding artist himself and the theater. The first day of the readings will be wrapped up with a creative program (about Marc Chagall) prepared by Anna Sulima’s document theater of the Belarusian State University of Culture and Arts.

The Chagall readings have been held in Vitebsk annually since 1991. In 1992 the event received an international status. Over the years dozens of researchers from Belarus, Russia, Ukraine, France, the UK, Switzerland, the United States, Israel, Germany, Latvia and other countries have take part in the event. Most materials were published in the Chagall Collection series (there have been four of them so far) and the Marc Chagall Museum Bulletin.
