Brest Fortress”, BelTA learned from Oleg Grebennikov, the head of the Garnizon military and historical club at the Brest city committee of the BRSM Youth Union.

The interest in the event is increasing, the geography of participants is growing. This time the reenactment of the historical events of June 1941 will feature more than 500 participants. Many more applications were submitted but the organizers had to limit the number of participants. Brest will welcome representatives from Russia, Poland, Ukraine, Japan, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Spain, China, and Kazakhstan. The newcomers are the historical reenactment clubs from the Czech Republic and Slovakia.

The participants will parade the streets of Brest on 21 June. The interactive zones and the exhibition of uniforms will give visitors an opportunity to see items related to the Great Patriotic War from the collections of the reenactment clubs. The goal is to recreate the atmosphere of the last pre-war peaceful days.

The main events will unfold in Brest Fortress at dawn on 22 June after a commemorative meeting. “During the reenactment event we will pay attention to many episodes of the perfidious attack of the enemy on the citadel and its heroic defense. For example, one of the most dramatic moments is the surrender of the wives and children of the officers of the fortress,” Oleg Grebennikov said. It is expected that the event will be attended by about 10,000 spectators.

The military and historical forum has been organized by the Brest Oblast Executive Committee, Brest City Hall, the Defense Ministry, the 38th Independent Airborne Brigade, the BRSM Youth Union, and the Garnizon military and historical club.
