Belavia sees no reason for cancelling flights to Turkey

MINSK, 14 December (BelTA) – The Belarusian air carrier Belavia believes there is no reason for cancelling its flights to Turkey, Igor Cherginets, Deputy Director General for Marketing and Foreign Economic Affairs at Belavia, told journalists on 14 December, BelTA has learned.

“We see no reason for cancelling our flights to Turkey. We operate flights to Istanbul in a regular mode,” Igor Cherginets noted.

He added that with the beginning of the summer season Belavia will be offering charter flights also to other Turkish cities, including Antalya and Izmir.

On 10 December, the Belarusian air carrier Belavia suspended flights to Sharm el-Sheikh, Egypt due to commercial reasons. Belavia General Director Anatoly Gusarov explained that the decision was driven by the requests from partners, including travel agencies that organize group trips to this destination. The number of tourists traveling to Sharm el-Sheikh has considerably decreased. As for Hurghada, Belavia’s flights to this city operate as normal.

Belavia is the largest air carrier in Belarus by the number of passengers and cargoes it transports. In January 2014 the Belarusian airline acquired a legal status of an open joint stock company. Belavia operates 27 aircraft, and offers regulars flights to 46 destinations in Europe and Asia. Belavia joined the International Air Transport Association (IATA) in 1997 and the European Regions Airline Association (ERAA) in 2010. In January-September 2015 Belavia’s passenger traffic increased by 4% over the same period last year.
