Belarusian students win 4 medals at Japanese Olympiad in Informatics

MINSK, 6 September (BelTA) – First-year students of the Faculty of Applied Mathematics and Informatics of the Belarusian State University (BSU) have won 4 medals at the International Olympiad in Informatics (IOI2018) in Tsukuba, Japan which will end on 7 September, BelTA learned from the press service of the university.

The gold medal winners are Alexander Kernozhitsky, a graduate of Mogilev gymnasium No.2, and Andrei Nekrashevich, a graduate of Luninets secondary school No.2. Stanislav Titenok ,a graduate of Gomel Gymnasium No. 5 and Mark Korneychik, a graduate of Vitebsk Gymnasium No. 1, have won the silver medals.

"Belarus won the fourth place, sharing it with the Russian team. This is the best result of Belarusian students for the entire period of their participation at the International Olympiads in Informatics. The first place was awarded to young programmers from China," the BSU said.

More than 900 participants from 88 countries took part in the Olympiad. Within two days the students were to solve three tasks and on their basis to develop a program on a specific task (5 hours per one program). The awards ceremony will take place on 7 September.
