Belarusian State University to host conference on philosophy

MINSK, 16 October (BelTA) – Around 350 professors, associate professors, postgraduates, and master’s degree students from 14 countries will partake in the international scientific conference Philosophy and Civilizational Prospects of Postmodernity due to kick off at Belarusian State University on 19 October, BelTA learned from the university’s press service.

The international forum will bring together representatives of Belarus, Russia, Ukraine, Lithuania, Latvia, Azerbaijan, Armenia, Moldova, Thailand, Romania, Bulgaria, Italy, Uzbekistan, and Kazakhstan.

The conference will make part of Belarus’ first philosophy congress headlined National Philosophy in the Global World. Taking part in the opening ceremony will be Luca Maria Scarantino (Italy), Secretary General of the International Federation of Philosophical Societies, and Andrei Smirnov, Director of the Institute of Philosophy of Russia’s Academy of Sciences.

The participants are set to make reports on the ways to unlock the potential of domestic philosophy in addressing topical theoretical, methodological, spiritual, cultural, and axiological issues. The congress will discuss the culture-building role of philosophical knowledge in the present-day society. All in all, the conference is going to comprise six sections and three roundtable discussions.

The forum is organized by the Institute of Philosophy of Belarus’ National Academy of Sciences and the Faculty of Philosophy and Social Sciences of Belarusian State University.

The congress National Phylosophy in the Global World is part of the celebrations marking the Year of Science. It will take place in Minsk from 18 to 20 October and will draw some 500 representatives of the philosophical science from 20 countries. The forum is meant to provide a comprehensive overview of the history and intellectual background of Belarus’ philosophical tradition and reflect its role in the development of philosophical knowledge nationally and globally.
