Belarusian Red Cross launching fundraiser for COVID-19 response

Belarusian Red Cross launching fundraiser for COVID-19 response

MINSK, 24 April (BelTA) - The Belarusian Red Cross is launching a single electronic platform for COVID-19 response, BelTA learned from the the Belarusian Red Cross Society.

By visiting donation.redcross.by/covid you can learn about all the ways to provide assistance, donate funds, send an application for volunteering, etc. The website provides operational information on the amount of aid collected and how it is distributed, on home delivery of goods and medicines to lonely elderly and disabled people.

"In an emergency, any help is important, even the smallest one. If big partners get involved, then the mobilization of resources goes much better," said Secretary General of the Belarusian Red Cross Olga Michko. The organization has such partners. For example, the initiative of the Red Cross has been supported by EPAM. This IT company has already donated $100,000 to the organization and asked its employees to make private donations, the final amount of which the company will double.

All funds will be used to purchase necessary medical equipment, personal protective equipment for doctors, medical workers and volunteers, and to support other important areas of work of the Belarusian Red Cross in the fight against COVID-19. Thanks to this assistance, the Dapamoga medical and social service will continue its sustainable operations. The service has 146 nurses and 25 sisters of charity  who make home visits to about 1,500 people. Some of them have lost their legs, others are living with serious chronic diseases. Without care and support these people will not survive, while nurses will not do without gloves, masks and antiseptics.

Protection equipment and disinfectant means are also needed by volunteers, social workers, who are busy delivering prescription drugs, products and medicines. Every day there are hundreds of such requests. Since 30 March, the volunteers of the Belarusian Red Cross have already fulfilled 4,508 requests.

Donations will also be used to keep the spirits up of frontline healthcare workers, at least with the help of drinking water, hot lunches and, if everything works out, with personal protection equipment.
