Belarusian Ice Hockey Federation signs player transfer agreement with NHL

MINSK, 11 March (BelTA) – A five-year agreement on the transfer of Belarusian players to the National Hockey League (NHL) was signed during the visit of Chairman of the Belarusian Ice Hockey Federation Igor Rachkovsky to North America, BelTA learnt from the press service of the Belarusian Ice Hockey Federation.

Representatives of the Belarusian Ice Hockey Federation and NHL Deputy Commissioner Bill Daly discussed a number of issues related to the player transfer between the leagues under the Belarusian Ice Hockey Federation and NHL, discussed cooperation opportunities in the organization of on-the-job training for representatives of the Belarusian hockey clubs in the clubs of the National Hockey League as well as the matters related to the participation of Belarusian players in the World U20 Ice Hockey Championship, the World Cup and the possible final Olympic qualification.

“One of the unfulfilled points of the hockey development program for 2014 was the signing of the player transfer agreement with the National Hockey League. The Belarusian Ice Hockey Federation held all necessary preparatory works to sign a full-fledged long-term agreement. We have also reached a preliminary agreement on traineeship of Belarusian coaches and managers in NHL clubs,” Igor Rachkovsky said.

The new document provides for the order of compensatory payments to the benefit of the Belarusian Ice Hockey Federation to training players that are expected to be sent to the relevant clubs or sport schools for further development of ice hockey and improvement of the material base.

The Belarusian delegation visited a number of sport centers and schools in North America to get familiar with the latest technique in the academic process. The parties reached agreements to invite foreign coaches for summer training camps in Belarus and send the best performing players and coaches for traineeship to Canada.
