MOSCOW, 18 October (BelTA) – An exhibition of Belarusian avant-garde dedicated to the 130th anniversary of Marc Chagall opened in the business and cultural center of the Belarusian Embassy in Russia on 17 October, BelTA has learned.

The exhibition has been arranged by the National Center for Contemporary Arts of Belarus. It features nearly 50 paintings, sculptures and graphics created by young artists and established masters, deputy director of the center Igor Leontiev said. “Some are dedicated to Mark Chagall while others are associated with the theme of his works,” he said.

The famous native of Vitebsk is the pride of not only Belarus but also Russia, France, the United States, Switzerland, and Israel where he worked and created his masterpieces, Minister Counselor of the Embassy of Belarus in Russia Yuri Yaroshevich said at the opening ceremony. The theme of the motherland was always manifest in his works making them unique and original,” said the diplomat.

According to Yuri Yaroshevich, the exposition of contemporary Belarusian artists proves that Marc Chagall’s creative heritage has been successfully developing in Belarus.

The exposition also featured a Moscow premiere of the animated film “Marc Chagall. Beginning” made by the Belarusfilm national studio. Another premiere was a program from the Camerata band of the Belarusian State Philharmonics.
