Belarusian dancers to present Belarusian culture in Europe

The Belarusian state academic dance company KhoroshkiMINSK, 15 June (BelTA) – The Belarusian state academic dance company Khoroshki and the State Dance Ensemble will present large-scale programs about Belarusian culture during the Belarus Day promotion event, BelTA learned from Belarusian First Deputy Culture Minister Irina Driga on 15 June.

The dance company Khoroshki will leave Belarus for Europe on 22 June to offer the program Zov Predkov (ancestors’ call). The program is based on historical, archeological, folklore, and ethnographic materials. From the angle of different periods of history the program uses the language of modern choreography, ancient musical instruments, and national costumes to tell spectators about the establishment and development of the Belarusian nation from days of old up till now. Khoroshki are expected to perform in Kiev, Ukraine on 23 June, in Warsaw, Poland on 27 June, in Berlin, Germany on 29 June, in Lyon, France on 1 July, in Prague, Czechia on 4 July, in Budapest, Hungary on 6 July, in Bled, Slovenia on 8 July, in Kosice, Slovakia on 10 July, and in Belgrade, Serbia on 12 July.

The State Dance Ensemble of Belarus will perform in Tallinn, Estonia on 17 July, in Riga, Latvia on 19 July, in Vilnius, Lithuania on 20 July. A new music and dance program Spadchyna (legacy) has been prepared for the tour.

The concerts will be arranged for the sake of enhancing Belarus’ image and for charity. Irina Driga reminded that the initiative to stage the Belarus Day was put forward during the fifth Belarusian People’s Congress. “The promotion event is designed to broadly present accomplishments of modern Belarusian culture before the world,” noted the official. The concerts are supposed to popularize modern Belarusian choreographic art, including authentic traditions and innovations, in addition to drawing attention to Belarusian art. The dance companies will also be able to establish art contacts and business contacts.

The Belarus Day promotion event has been organized by the Belarusian Culture Ministry in association with the Belarusian Ministry of Foreign Affairs with assistance of the embassies of Belarus abroad.
