Belarusian choir to give concert in Italy in support of earthquake victims

MINSK, 2 November (BelTA) – A Belarusian choir will give a charity concert in Sardinia in support of the earthquake victims in central Italy, BelTA learned from Honorary Consul of Belarus in Cagliari (Sardinia) Giuseppe Carboni.

The vocal group of the Saint Nicholas of Japan Church in Minsk will perform at a festive service at the parish of Saint Sabbas the Sanctified in Cagliari and give a number of concerts in different parts of the region.

The main concert will take place at the 18th-century hall of the library of the University of Cagliari on 4 November. The university’s rector, the mayor of the Sardinian capital, the regional minister of culture, and official representatives of the Roman Catholic Church and the Russian Orthodox Church in Sardinia have been invited to the concert.

The Belarusian choir will perform pieces of religious music written by Russian classical composers and contemporary Belarusian religious music.

The concert will also feature Italian vocal groups, including the polyphonic choir C.U.M. The slogan of the concert will be “Minsk and Cagliari – Let’s Help Amatrice Together”. The Cagliari University Music Center (Centro Universitario Musicale di Cagliari) will help raise money in support of the earthquake victims and will give it for charity purposes to the the municipality of Amatrice.

The vocal group of the Saint Nicholas of Japan Church was founded in December 2014. It is led by Natalia Sanko and comprises seven young professional and amateur singers. The group actively promotes Orthodox choral music and Belarusian music.
