Belarusian-Chinese institute set up at Belarusian State University

MINSK, 15 April (BelTA) - Belarusian State University (BSU) and Dalian Polytechnic University (DPU) have set up a joint Belarusian-Chinese institute. A corresponding agreement was signed by the two universities' rectors Andrei Korol and Guo Dongming, BelTA learned from the press service of the Belarusian State University.

The institute will come online on 1 September. Training will be conducted in English and Russian at the first stage. The institute will offer the programs “mechanics and mathematical modelling”, “physics (production activity)” and “the world economy”. The institute is expected to run the Chinese language program too. The institute will apply Belarus’ university admission rules. Conditions are the same as for similar majors in the Belarusian State University. The first enrollment will make up 120 students from among Belarusian citizens.

Representatives of Belarusian and Chinese universities will teach in the joint institute. “All curricula and programs are developed and approved with the participation of the two parties and are updated in accordance with the latest achievements of science, technology and industry of the countries-participants of the educational project,” press service said. Graduates will receive two diplomas: of BSU and Dalian Polytechnic University. There are plans to open the master’s program in 2020.

BSU and Dalian Polytechnic University have been actively cooperating since 2007. The universities have signed a number of agreements on scientific and educational cooperation. A joint institute was set up in Dalian in 2017. It currently enrolls 159 Chinese students who major in “applied physics” and “mechanics”. Some 30% of the courses is provided by the Belarusian State University professors.
