Belarusian books featured at Red Square Book Festival in Moscow

MOSCOW, 3 June (BelTA) – Belarus is running a national stand at Red Square Book Festival which opened in the heart of the Russian capital on 3 June, BelTA has learned.

Belarus’ Information Ministry organized a collective stand of Belarusian publishing houses which features 1,397 book titles published in 2014-2016. The stand comprises all state-run and many of private publishing houses of Belarus.

The Belarusian stand runs several main themes, Belarusian Information Minister Lilia Ananich told BelTA. They include the 500th anniversary of the Belarusian book printing which will be celebrated next year, the 30th anniversary of the Chernobyl disaster, and the theme of the Great Patriotic War. A separate section is dedicated to the local history. On the whole, Belarus showcases the most diverse literature: fiction, children's, educational, scientific, art albums, books in foreign languages.

The Belarusian stand located in close proximity to the main stage of the festival has aroused a great interest among visitors. The guests of the stand were special representative of the Russian President for international cultural cooperation Mikhail Shvydkoi, filmmaker Stanislav Govorukhin, writer Valery Kazakov, Russian MPs and other famous personalities.

Red Square Book Festival is held for the second time. It features about 400 publishers from all over Russia, who have brought over 100,000 books to Moscow.
