Belarus visitor numbers rise 5-8%

MINSK, 20 August (BelTA) – The number of tourists visiting Belarus has climbed up 5-8%, Belarus’ Deputy Sport and Tourism Minister Mikhail Portnoi said during an online conference hosted by the Belarusian Television and Radio Company, BelTA informs.

Mikhail Portnoi did not agree with a statement that people travel less nowadays. “Every person has an interest in traveling. Due to economic conditions people have to seek budget choices and spend less money. Statistics proves it: this year the country has already welcomed more than 2 million visitors, up 5-8% from 2014,” he said.

“Belarus is an attractive country but still a little-known land in the tourism world. Our new program, which will be implemented in 2016-2020, will focus on enhancing the country’s attractiveness and recognizability,” Mikhail Portnoi said.

According to the deputy minister, the future plans include the development of a national tourism Internet portal. The website will work on a positive image of the country and also will be used to offer tourism services.
