MINSK, 9 October (BelTA) – Belarusian school student Olga Volchkevich has won the 49th International Letter-Writing Competition for Young People organized by the Universal Postal Union (UPU), BelTA learned from the website of the Belarusian Communications and Informatization Ministry.

Eleven-year-old Olga Volchkevich, a school student from Grodno, won this year’s edition of the competition with her memorable and touching letter, the ministry said.

Olga Volchkevich was victorious at all the national stages of the competition. “Participants were invited to write message to an adult about the world we live in. Around 1,500 works were sent from all over the country. Olga Volchkevich’s work was selected to represent the country at the international level. As a result, she took the gold medal,” the ministry noted.

The results of the competition were announced by UPU Director General Bishar Hussein. He congratulated the victor online and demonstrated the medal that will be sent to Olga Volchkevich. North Macedonia placed second, Vietnam rounded out the top three.

Belarus holds a letter-writing competition among school students under 15 years old with the aim to develop the skill of expressing their thoughts, motivate them to write letters, and strengthen international friendly relations. Belarus has already won several medals at the international competition: a gold in 2003, two silvers in 2008 and 2010, and a bronze in 2009.
